Institute Cargo Clauses
Standard wordings used worldwide. Clause A is all risks; B and C cover named events only.
General average
When a ship's master sacrifices cargo to save the voyage, every cargo owner shares the cost. Insurance pays your share.
Incoterms
Your sales terms decide who carries the risk at each stage, and so who needs to insure it.
Usually not covered
- Insufficient or unsuitable packing
- Inherent vice, such as natural spoilage
- Delay, even if caused by an insured event
- Ordinary leakage, loss in weight and wear and tear
